FROM DESIGNER:

This is an alternative build of the Lego 10221 Super Star Destroyer using less expensive parts.
I spent a lot of time trying to find an affordable set for my collection. When I couldn't find one I decided to see how much of the build I could complete with my existing collection. I filled in the gaps and modified the design to use less expensive parts. The two most glaring examples of changes made to the original design are the changed hull design, and the use of alternative colors. These two changes alone I estimate save more than $150 in parts for the build. You will also notice my design gets rid of pesky part 32555 which I believe is the single most expensive part in the original design.

Within this MOC you will find a common theme in colors:

  • Parts in yellow (instructions) can be substituted for for any color as they will not show through externally. In the parts list on the MOC these are listed as no color.
  • Parts in coral can be any color you wish, but should all match. I would recommend a dark color such as dark bluish grey or black. I used black in my build. These parts may show in an error state in the parts list.
  • Parts in blue can be any color you wish, but should all match. I would recommend light bluish grey or dark bluish grey. I used dark bluish grey in my build as many 3x12 wedges are required in this color and the dark bluish grey parts are much less expensive. These parts may show in an error state in the parts list.
  • Tiles in green can be any color you wish, but should all match. I would recommend light bluish grey, dark bluish grey, black, or tan. This are only partially visible from the outside.
  • The lavender parts can be any color, but should all match. I would recommend light bluish grey, dark bluish grey, or black. These are primarily used along the edge between the hull pieces. It is dark in there so most any dark color will blend in.
  • The engines should all be the same color. The light bluish grey is very expensive. I used dark bluish grey for mine.
